Counseling is essentially a partnership. As a previous Division I athlete, I value having a team-based approach to solving problems and navigating through life's challenges. People seek counseling for a variety of reasons, and I do my best to tailor my services to fit your particular needs, values, and goals. Some of the more frequent life circumstances that can be helped by counseling are: depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, work/vocational dissatisfaction, identity/multicultural concerns, family distress, grief/loss, physical health issues, difficulty adjusting to life changes and transitions. I provide both individual and couples counseling and am welcoming to all aspects of identity. If your particular concern isn't listed here, that doesn't mean that counseling won't help. I'd be happy to discuss what options might be best in a brief phone consultation or an initial in-person appointment.
Depending on your needs, counseling sessions can very length from 1-2 appointments to several months or years, and many people find that it can be helpful to start and stop counseling at different phases of their life. Setting up a first appointments will provide both of us a chance to get to know each other, discuss your concerns in more detail, discuss any diagnostic considerations that might be relevant, and collaborate on a gameplan for reaching your goals. At times I may also recommend or refer you to other resources that may be helpful for you. Also, I am excited to offer walk-and-talk sessions; please let me know if you are interested in this option. Engaging in easy movement while working through your concerns and goals can be both rewarding and effective.
My style is highly collaborative, as I see you as the expert on your own life. My hope is that as we work together you will gain awareness and acceptance of your circumstances as you attain tangible progress and growth. Sometimes the stretching that is required during the growth process can be uncomfortable or scary, but I will do my best to provide you with a balance of challenge and support, encouragement and honesty. I strive to tailor my services to best fit your needs and have experience providing culturally competent services to individuals and couples from a variety of diverse identities and backgrounds (including LGBTQIA, racial and ethnic, and religious/spiritual).
Sport & Performance Psychology
Reaching your full potential for growth and peak performance can be an exciting and rewarding journey. Sometimes we find ourselves confronted with blocks and barriers that limit our capacity for growth and success. Performance psychology can help you to identify ways to excel and expand your functioning and get more out of yourself than you might have previously thought possible. Encouraging our mind and body to work together in harmony rather than in conflict is often one of the most successful ways for reaching your full potential in any performance realm, whether it be sport, performing or creative arts, high risk/demanding careers, and executive/corporate realms. I have experience working with a wide range of performers including youth sport, collegiate & professional/elite athletes, musicians, dancers, artists, coaches, and executives/administrators. My services also include consultation for high performing teams and organizations, and I am always thrilled to come on-site to provide training and workshops that will improve the wellness and performance of your team.
Sport and performance psychology services can be in the form of one-on-one appointments, on-site consultations, group workshops, executive coaching sessions, or organizational trainings. Peak performance services often include the exploration and enhancement of: motivation, risk taking, overcoming setbacks and failures, managing stress & anxiety, managing performance pressure and building resilience, preparing for competition, injury recovery, consistency in performance, and confidence. Additionally, if you are looking to make lifestyle, health/wellness, or other behavioral changes in your life, walk-and-talk sessions can offer the chance to be more active while talking through solutions and plans for your growth.
